CS2 Update (Sep 28, 2026)
CS2 refreshes the pet photobooth with new effect sounds, tuned chicken audio, and a cleaner player report popup title, plus a small version bump and asset housekeeping.
Quick read
- Pet photobooth effects now have dedicated sound events, complete with timed chicken reaction audio.
- Chicken and UI sounds receive tuning, including higher panic volumes and longer block durations to reduce spam.
- The player report popup title is now driven by a localized string for cleaner phrasing and better translation support.
- Nine new photobooth effect sound files are registered as assets, alongside a routine client/server version bump.
A small CS2 update focuses on polishing the pet photobooth experience with new sound design, tweaks to chicken audio, and a cleaner player report popup title.
Pet Photobooth: New Effects and Reactions
- Effect-specific sounds: The pet photobooth now has dedicated audio for each visual effect. Triggering effects like explosions, lightning, fire circles, beams, lasers, fireworks, confetti, bubbles, or feathers will now play matching sounds such as
Photobooth.FX.Explosion,Photobooth.FX.Lightning,Photobooth.FX.FireCircle,Photobooth.FX.Beam,Photobooth.FX.Laser,Photobooth.FX.FireWorks,Photobooth.FX.Confetti,Photobooth.FX.Bubbles, andPhotobooth.FX.Feathers. - Layered sound playback: When you trigger an effect, the game still plays the existing
Chicken.Camera.FXsound but now also plays the corresponding effect sound if it exists. This makes each photobooth effect feel more distinct. - Chicken reaction timing: A new reaction timing has been added: after
EFFECT_REACTION_DELAY = 0.5seconds, the chicken plays a reaction sound based on its growth stage using a pattern likeChicken.Idle.[stage].PhotoBooth. This should make the pet feel more alive as it “responds” shortly after each effect.
Audio Tuning for Photobooth and Chickens
- New UI sound events: A full set of UI sound events has been added to back the photobooth effects listed above, each mapped to corresponding files under
sounds/ui/chickens/photobooth_fx_*.vsnd. These are configured as UI-focused sounds with distance curves, light reverb, and instance limits to keep them controlled in the mix. - Chicken panic volume boost: The photobooth-specific panic sounds for hen, pullet, and chick (
Chicken.Panic.Hen.PhotoBooth,Chicken.Panic.Pullet.PhotoBooth,Chicken.Panic.Chick.PhotoBooth) now have their volume increased from0.1to0.3. This likely makes panicked reactions in the photobooth more noticeable without affecting normal gameplay audio. - Wing flap refinement:
Chicken.Flap.Single.Photoboothhas its volume slightly reduced from0.03to0.02, suggesting fine-tuning of the balance between flap sounds and the new effect audio. - Sound blocking adjustments: Several chicken and UI sound events have their
block_durationincreased from0.01to0.5. This likely reduces how rapidly these sounds can retrigger, cutting down on potential spammy or stuttering audio when actions happen in quick succession.
Player Report Popup Text Cleanup
- Standardized title string: The report player popup layout now uses a localized string key
#SFUI_ReportingPlayerfor its title label instead of hardcoding "Reporting {s:target_player}" in the XML. - New localization entry: The English localization file adds
"SFUI_ReportingPlayers" "Reporting {s:target_player}". This suggests the title is now driven entirely by localization, which may help ensure consistent phrasing and easier translation across languages.
Asset and Version Updates
- New UI audio assets registered: All nine new photobooth effect sound files under
sounds/ui/chickens/photobooth_fx_*.vsndare now registered as game assets, ensuring they’re packaged and available in-game for the updated photobooth behavior. - Client/server version bump:
ClientVersionandServerVersionmove from2000918to2000919, andPatchVersionupdates to1.41.8.6. This is a routine version step that aligns clients and servers with the latest code and content. - Packaging refresh: The main content manifest (
pak01_dir.txt) is updated to reference the modified photobooth popup script, report popup layout, localization files, and chicken UI sounds. The repeated add/remove of the same paths suggests a repack or reordering rather than visible content changes for players.
Overall Impact
This update is narrowly focused but noticeable if you use the pet photobooth: effects now have dedicated audio, chickens react more distinctly, and sound spam should be better controlled. Outside of the photobooth, the only visible change most players may notice is a slightly more standardized title on the player report popup, while the rest of the changes keep the client and content packaging in sync behind the scenes.
