CS2 Update (Oct 2, 2026)

Small CS2 update cleans up commend and photobooth popups, expands Workshop crosshair/ironsight cvar support, and refreshes localization and build metadata.

Quick read

  • Commend player and pet photobooth popups were cleaned up, including proper team-based hands in vanity shots and removal of leftover placeholder text.
  • Workshop cvar whitelist was updated to match CS2’s modern crosshair system and now also includes ironsight color and dot scale options.
  • Localization for the reporting UI was polished, and language resource files were refreshed while the game rolled to a new internal build version.

This lightweight CS2 update quietly tunes a few UI popups, refines Workshop config support for new crosshair and ironsight settings, and tidies up some localization text while rolling the game to a new internal build version.

UI tweaks for commendations and the pet photobooth

  • Commend player popup text cleaned up: The commendation window no longer includes a stray placeholder "wtf" line. The status label now starts empty, so any messages you see there should properly reflect your current commend action instead of debug or placeholder text.
  • Player name handling adjusted in commend popup: The code that inserts the target player’s name into the commend dialog was simplified to use GameStateAPI.GetPlayerName(xuid) directly. This may slightly change how special characters or formatting in names appear, and it suggests Valve is tightening up how player names are injected into UI text to avoid unnecessary escaping or layout issues.
  • Pet Photo Booth now equips hands with the right team loadout: In the pet photobooth popup, the selected team is now stored in a team variable and reused when looking up both the character and their hands cosmetic (clothing_hands). The panel explicitly calls elPanel.EquipPlayerWithItem(LoadoutAPI.GetItemID(team, 'clothing_hands')), so your character’s gloves/hands should better match the chosen team and loadout in these vanity shots. This likely fixes cases where the model appeared with mismatched or default hands in the photobooth.

Workshop config: expanded crosshair and ironsight support

  • Updated Workshop cvar whitelist for crosshair settings: The scripts/workshop_cvar_whitelist.txt file was refreshed around crosshair-related variables. The list now:

    • Avoids a duplicate cl_crosshair_recoil entry.
    • Drops older-style entries like cl_crosshairalpha, cl_crosshaircolor, cl_crosshairgap, cl_crosshairsize, cl_crosshairthickness, and cl_crosshairusealpha.
    • Adds more detailed color channels and outline channels: cl_crosshaircolor_a, cl_crosshairoutline_r, cl_crosshairoutline_g, cl_crosshairoutline_b, cl_crosshairoutline_a.
    • Switches to the newer naming for geometry settings: cl_crosshair_gap, cl_crosshair_length, cl_crosshair_thickness, and cl_crosshair_dynamic_spread_limit.

These changes line up with the current CS2 crosshair system and should make it easier for Workshop maps and training configs to safely adjust modern crosshair options without touching disallowed commands.

  • New ironsight customization in Workshop environments: Two additional entries, cl_ironsight_usecrosshaircolor and cl_ironsight_dot_scale, are now whitelisted. This means Workshop maps that rely on the whitelist can potentially let you:

    • Toggle whether ironsight elements inherit your crosshair color.
    • Adjust the scale of an ironsight dot.

This does not, by itself, add new ironsight functionality, but it does suggest Valve is exposing more of the existing ironsight tuning to creators and config authors under the Workshop-safe umbrella.

Localization polish for reporting text

  • Reporting prompt string corrected: The English localization key for the reporting popup was updated from "SFUI_ReportingPlayers" to "SFUI_ReportingPlayer", keeping the text as "Reporting {s:target_player}". This is a small language fix, but it should make the report UI feel more polished and grammatically correct when you report a single player.

  • Localization resource entries refreshed across languages: The package manifest shows all resource/csgo_*.txt language files being touched and re-listed (English and many localized variants like Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, etc.). The actual visible change we can see is the reporting text in English, but this pattern suggests Valve may be doing a minor pass that keeps localization files in sync across languages.

Build and packaging housekeeping

  • New internal client and server version: steam.inf has been bumped from client/server 2000922 to 2000924, with a new source revision and build timestamp. For players and server operators, this simply means a fresh build is live; there are no direct gameplay changes exposed here, but community servers will generally need to match the new version.

  • Asset packaging refreshed: The pak01_dir.txt manifest (which lists packaged game resources) was updated in bulk, touching text resources, some character material entries, and Panorama popup script/layout entries.

    • Files related to popup_commend_player and popup_pet_photobooth were removed and re-added in compiled form (.vxml_c, .vts_c), matching the script/layout changes mentioned earlier.
    • Materials for a ctm_swat_leader_upperbody model were bounced in and out of the manifest without net change, which likely indicates a repack or rebuild with no visible differences for players.

These manifest updates are standard housekeeping to ensure the shipped package correctly references all the updated UI scripts, localization text, and materials.

Overall impact

This update is a quiet polish pass rather than a gameplay patch. Players will mainly notice smoother UI around commendations and more consistent visuals in the pet photobooth, while Workshop creators gain better-aligned support for CS2’s modern crosshair and ironsight cvars. Behind the scenes, localization and packaging got a small cleanup as the game rolled to a new internal version.
